Teak Shower Seats Really Last!
You may be wondering, "Why would anyone want to purchase a teak shower seat?" The answer is pretty straightforward -- teak is a wood that, because of its high content of preserving oils, is one of the most water-resistant woods known to man. This makes teak wood ideal for use in wet environments such as at poolside and in shower stalls.
One difficulty in finding the right teak shower seat is that many shower stalls are very small. If your shower stall does not afford much extra space for a separate chair or seat, then you should look into purchasing a fold-up shower seat. Teak fold-up shower seats are available in a variety of lengths and usually include all of the necessary mounting hardware as well. The great thing about these teak shower seats is that when you are not using them you can simply fold them up against your shower walls, out of the way.
Another great option in teak shower seats, if you are limited in shower stall space, is a small tripod shower seat. These types of teak shower seats typically have a 100% teak wood top attached to three or four telescoping metal legs. These types of teak shower seats are usually shaped like a triangle, so that they can be placed in a corner of your shower stall, against two walls. The advantage of these teak shower seats is that the wood does not have to come in direct contact with the wet shower stall floor.
If you have a somewhat larger shower stall then, of course, you have more options in teak shower seats. One good option would be to purchase a garden-type bench made from teak. The smallest of these would serve as an excellent teak shower seat, with plenty of room for you and even another person if necessary (honeymooners take note!). If not for use with another person, the extra bench space could also be used to keep your robe or dry clothes handy. If you are using this in a pool-side shower area, then the extra bench space will give you a place to put your wet swimwear once you have undressed for showering. Regardless of the type of teak shower seat you choose to have in your shower stall, please be advised that teak wood is not completely impervious to the effects of moisture -- especially over long periods of time. To help your teak shower seat last as long as possible, you should make sure that the teak wood legs (if your teak shower seat has them) are not sitting directly on a wet shower surface. If possible, raise the legs off of the ground by putting your teak shower seat on a small raised platform. In addition, make sure your teak shower seat is constructed in such a way that water can drain easily off of it. It is very important to try to allow your shower stall area to dry thoroughly during the daytime. This can be accomplished by turning on a small space heater, or even by opening the windows in your bathroom to allow the steam and moisture to vent outside. It is possible to cause teak shower seats to rot if they are continually exposed to moisture and not given a chance to dry thoroughly.
